Don't Pity Me. Empower Me

After more than a decade of work across Pakistan, R.E.S.C.U.E understands that poor people also have skills and initiative that they would like to use to lift their families out of poverty. So instead of a handout in the form of monetary aid, we give them a hand up through training, facilitation and help in-kind.

At R.E.S.C.U.E, we mainly serve the elderly and the underprivileged. This term also forces us to consider what poverty is and how it manifests itself in people's lives.

While on the surface poverty is often defined as a lack of income or assets, in the day-to-day lives of the very poor, poverty becomes a net of disadvantages, each one intensifying the others. The result is generation after generation of people in chronically poor communities lacking access to health care, adequate housing, good nutrition and education; vulnerable to a host of evils, and powerless to improve their circumstances. These conditions often carry with them dysfunctional family and societal relationships, paralyzing low self-esteem, and spiritual darkness.

RESCUE Flood Relief Efforts

In July 2010, heavy monsoon rains caused massive flooding in Pakistan, killing many people and challenging relief efforts in remote areas stranded by washed out roads and bridges. Reports estimate that nearly 14 million people have been affected by the disaster - more than the combined total of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, the 2005 Kashmir earthquake and the 2010 Haiti earthquake, according to the United Nations.

RESCUE was at ground zero to help out in the reconstruction....

WHAT WE DO
Where Service to the Elderly Begins by Being a Friend

The underprivileged and especially the elderly have basic needs too that are not met and they are also facing social problems such as poor health, loneliness and humiliation.

It is also a fact that most elderly are willing to work even though they have poor health conditions. However, when they travel from place to place to engage in income generating activities, they are most of the time victims of tragic circumstances. Furthermore, those elderly people who are sick or disabled are dependent on their children, family members or their neighbors, even though these people, themselves, are struggling to improve their own condition.

Therefore, recognizing the problems facing this vulnerable segment of our society and to help them live comfortably in their individual neighborhoods, R.E.S.C.U.E has launched programs to provide skills and job placement.

Spread the Word

Let your friends and family know about the power of microfinance and technology to end global poverty. There are a number of ways you can easily share the idea that simple actions can help the world’s poorest, especially women and the elderly, improve their lives and escape poverty through access to microfinance and technology. By telling others about our work, you can raise awareness and do your part to fight global poverty.
