Don't Pity Me. Empower Me

After more than a decade of work across Pakistan, R.E.S.C.U.E understands that poor people also have skills and initiative that they would like to use to lift their families out of poverty. So instead of a handout in the form of monetary aid, we give them a hand up through training, facilitation and help in-kind.

At R.E.S.C.U.E  we mainly serve the elderly and the underprivileged. This term also forces us to consider what poverty is and how it manifests itself in people’s lives.

While on the surface poverty is often defined as a lack of income or assets, in the day-to-day lives of the very poor, poverty becomes a net of disadvantages, each one intensifying the others. The result is generation after generation of people in chronically poor communities lacking access to health care, adequate housing, good nutrition and education; vulnerable to a host of evils, and powerless to improve their circumstances. These conditions often carry with them dysfunctional family and societal relationships, paralyzing low self-esteem, and spiritual darkness.

These "very poor" face struggles in nearly every aspect of life. For instance they lack physical strength from poor health due to inadequate nutrition; they are isolated and lack access to services, information, markets, capital and infrastructure that we take for granted. These elements of poverty are linked and each worsens the effects of the others, trapping the poor in a vicious cycle. Those caught in this web of poverty are typically malnourished, in ill-health, with low literacy rates, vulnerable to abuse, powerless to improve themselves, and with no understanding of God’s love for them.

R.E.S.C.U.E is a non-political, non-profit organization that strongly believes in an equal opportunity for all and in preserving the cultures, traditions and beliefs of the marginalized communities it works in. We are also a Zero Overhead organization; our board, volunteers and members work on a gratis basis and nothing from your donations is ever used for the organization’s operational expenses.
